LEGAL PLACEMENT

The Criminal and Civil Law Internship Program in Ghana is one of the most highly recognized legal internship opportunities in Africa. It has been described as one of the finest pre-law experiences available and has been consistently ranked as one of the most hands-on internship programs. The interns are assigned to either one or two attorneys in the trial division for whom they are to complete all investigative aspects of the assigned cases.

INTERNS AND VOLUNTEERS RESPONSIBILITIES
Your activities will depend largely on your experience, but may include some of the following:
Responsibilities range from locating and interviewing witnesses, meeting with and interviewing clients, taking detailed witness statements, performing extensive criminal background checks, serving subpoenas, photographing and diagramming crime scenes, preparing courtroom exhibits, preparing memoranda regarding investigative activities, assisting with case development, and generally assisting the assigned attorney(s) in and out of court.

WHY THE PROJECT NEED INTERNS / VOLUNTEERS:
To compliment the effort of stakeholders to send proper and improved basic judiciary services to the masses.
To offer staff support to the insufficient staffs in the delivery of justice.
To offer volunteers/interns an opportunity to discover practical and innovative law practice in Ghana.
To create a bond between the volunteer/intern and the local community and also promote cross cultural understanding.

In Ghana, efforts are underway to improve the legal facilities. With your experience of the Western legal service, you will be able to bring unique skills and a fresh perspective to the project. In exchange, you will gain a valuable insight into Ghana's culture and will have the opportunity to improve your skills in a variety of areas in legal matters.

WHAT KIND OF SKILLS DO YOU NEED TO GO ON THIS PROJECT:
General Requirements: Law interns need to be either currently studying or practicing in the law field. Excellent communication and written skill in English language.

WHERE THE PROJECT IS BASED
Most of our projects are based in the capital city, Accra, with shops, banks & internet cafes nearby. This vibrant city is renowned for its friendly atmosphere where visitors are always welcome. It's full of contrasts: from traditional culture and history to modern infrastructure. Please book your flight to arrive at Kotoka International Airport, Accra (airport code ACC) on your intended date to ensure your airport pickup.

WHAT CAN I DO WITH MY FREE TIME?
PHIVOG anticipates and encourages your desire for travel and adventure. Your time away from volunteering is open for you to decide your activities. You may decide to take advantage of the local culture and spend time within the community over the weekend. Otherwise, there is ample opportunity to explore Ghana and all it has to offer. Our local representative, will advice you on which areas are safe for travel.
