ENVIRONMENTAL AND WILDLIFE PLACEMENT

Volunteers help educate the tourists and local communities on the importance of wildlife and environmental conservation in Ghana. This project needs volunteers to help educate people about the importance of conserving rivers and lakes, preserving the lives of animals, and helping the community live in clean and disease free environment. You will work alongside park rangers on a variety of conservation efforts to maintain and preserve the beauty of the land and wildlife of Ghana. The volunteers will embark on public education and environmental conservation methods like tree planting, efficient farming methods, prevention of bush fires, wetland preservation and importantly, the prevention of pollution in rivers.

WHERE THE PROJECT IS BASED
The project site is located in Shai hill game reserve in the Greater Accra region of  Ghana. The Shai hills game reserve is located about 40 miles from Accra on the Accra to Akosobmo road. The game reserve has a variety of wildlife including, baboons, antelopes, bushbuck and assorted birds and bats. Shai hills has a rich culture ranging from food, architecture, clothes, language, art and culture, dance, and music.

INTERNS AND VOLUNTEERS RESPONSIBILITIES
You will work with staff members to maintain and preserve the beauty of the land and wildlife of Ghana. You will be getting your hands dirty working on assignments such as; tree planting, efficient farming methods, prevention of bush fires, wetland preservation and importantly, the prevention of pollution in rivers.
What are the requirements for this project?

  • Language Requirement: Basic English
  • Must be 18 years or older.

HOW WILL MY WORK SCHEDULE BE LIKE?
PHIVOG believes that you should have a well balanced work and play schedule. This means you will only be required to work 5 days per week (Monday to Friday) for a maximum of 6 hours per day. For the remainder of your time, you will be free to enjoy the vacationing aspects of your trip.
Will I be able to communicate with family and friends?
Internet Cafés and telephones are readily available throughout the country. An international phone card can be purchased once in Ghana.

WHAT CAN I DO WITH MY FREE TIME?
PHIVOG anticipates and encourages your desire for travel and adventure. Your time away from volunteering is open for you to decide your activities. You may decide to take advantage of the local culture and spend time within the community over the weekend. Otherwise, there is ample opportunity to explore Ghana and all it has to offer. Our local representative, will advice you on which areas are safe for travel.
